A few months ago, I was asked to take part in a collaborative project involving rural basket makers and urban product designers. The brief was to make an urban, alternative, strong, safe and useable bicycle basket. It was a huge pleasure to work with all the designers and organiser Roisin De Buitlear.
I decided to up-cycle an old wire supermarket shopping basket. To make it more urban I sprayed the finished basket black, and added a white logo. It was around the time of the refurendum on same sex marriages in Ireland, so the "YES" logo seemed appropriate. I used the existing wire handles to make a lid, and old reflective jackets to cover them. Here's some pictures of the process.
